About Maury

Maury D. Gaston is a native of Sylacauga, Alabama. While growing up there, he was active in his school and community and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. In 1982, Maury was graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree. At Auburn, Maury was inducted into Phi Eta Sigma and Lambda Sigma student honoraries. He also served as secretary to the Student Government Association Senate and held an executive office in his fraternity for three years.

Gaston began his career with AMERICAN in 1982 as a sales engineer in the New York district office and soon transferred to our Orlando sales office. In 1989, Maury was promoted to West Coast District Manager in Sacramento, California, and later transferred as Dallas District Manager. In 1997, Gaston returned to Birmingham where he led our ductile iron pipe and spiral weld pipe customer service operations. Gaston has served as Manager of Marketing Services since 2005.

Mr. Gaston is a member of the American Water Works Association A21 committee dealing with ductile iron pipe and fitting products and chairs subcommittee 1 governing ductile iron pipe design and manufacture. Gaston currently serves as Chairman of the Alabama Iron and Steel Council. He is past Chairman of the Auburn University Alumni Engineering Council and serves on the university’s College of Engineering Capital Campaign Leadership team. Mr. Gaston was named Auburn’s Outstanding Mechanical Engineering Alumnus in 2014. Maury is a Director and past Chairman of the state of Alabama Engineering Hall of Fame and also serves Sigma Nu Fraternity as an elected national officer.

Gaston has written and presented a number of technical and policy papers at industry conferences. His paper on the case for trans-basin pipelines was recognized by the American Society of Civil Engineers for its innovative thought.

Maury and his wife, Nancy, are the parents of one daughter and are active members of Mountain Brook Community Church.
